We tend to generalize and fuse Security with Preparedness. Whereas they are connected, preparedness encompasses primarily the effects of a security incident.
As a baseline, security is very important in primarily deterring and hopefully through that possibly preventing an incident. Preparedness is how you and your community react to an emergency, security related or any other incident that forces you to take immediate action of self-preservation.
Preparedness comes in affect in those crucial seconds when you must make a decision and take action. The better you are prepared, trained and knowledgeable, your initial cations can influence the possible outcome. The global and local security landscape has changed over the past few years and is continuously changing, but we as a society have been slow to adapt and change our mindset.
We have seen attacks on places of worship, primarily Synagogues, personal security and the sense of security has declined. Additionally, Canada has witnessed a steep percentage and severity increase in antisemitic incidents towards Jewish businesses, Synagogues, Jewish schools and the Jewish community.
Jewish students in Universities are experiencing a severe reduction in personal safety and security, with a significant rise of harassment, intimidation and seclusion since October 7th.
